HISTORY
Devil’s Claw is native to Southern and Eastern Africa, notably the Veldt of the Tranvaal region. It is a trailing herbaceous perennial whose brilliant “devil” red/purple flowers and woody barbed, claw-like fruit are responsible for its descriptive name. After devil’s claw was introduced to European herbal medicine by Mehnert, this herb became so popular that by 1976, it was estimated that 30 000 arthritic patients in the United Kingdom alone were using it.
