Lobelia Inflata
As with its traditional use, lobelia is primarily used for respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. Lobelia and lobeline (a constituent found in lobelia) products are often used in treating tobacco addictions because lobeline is chemically similar to nicotine.

HISTORY
Lobelia is a hairy annual or biennial, indigenous to the western parts of North America, that is often found in acidic soils. The plant grows from 6-36 inches or 30-100 centimeters tall, with pale blue flowers and a milky sap. This herb was used by peoples of the First Nations primarily for respiratory conditions and as an emetic. It later became popular among the early European settlers. Lobelia was smoked in a similar fashion to tobacco, hence the synonym, Indian tobacco.
