HISTORY
Wintergreen oil is rich in methyl salicylate, the basis of the aspirin group, and explains much of the activity of Wintergreen in reducing pain and inflammation in acute rheumatism. It is most commonly used externally as a liniment for the treatment of chronic forms of muscular and skeletal troubles such as lumbago and sciatica. Internally the plant has been used for its diuretic and emmenagogic activity, it is reported to be a galactogogue, astringent, and a stimulant.
